This year we celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the discovery of a revolutionary form of healing, originally called Callahan Techniques and now commonly known as Thought Field Therapy (TFT). TFT was discovered and developed by California clinical psychologist, Dr. Roger Callahan.

The first person Dr. Roger Callahan treated with this method was Mary, a woman in her 40s who had a severe phobia of water. According to Mary and her relatives, she had had this phobia ever since she was an infant.

Water was so terrifying to Mary that she could not take baths in a full tub of water and was terrified every time it rained. She often had nightmares of water getting her. And, although she lived in California, she could not go to the beach, because the very sight of water caused her unbearable anxiety.

Dr. Callahan had been working with Mary using a wide variety of conventional psychotherapy techniques for a year and a half with very little progress. Even though he had tried every technique available at the time, all he had been able to do for her was get her to the point where she could sit on the edge of his swimming pool and reluctantly dangle her legs in the water. Even this filled her with anxiety. Read more

Paul Harris took time out for this video to tell his story of how Thought Field Therapy has helped him overcome his trauma.

Paul know a few things about fear and trauma… a horrific auto accident in 1989 left him with burns to over 80% his body – and he was pronounced dead three times.

Paul tells his story of how the burns affected his life and how one of our TFT practitioners,  Chrissy Mayhew,  helped him get over 20 years of his post traumatic stress:

Don't worry be happy - stress squeeze ball

A recent study done by the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden, with 506 seniors (median age 82), found that those who were calm and easygoing were 50% less likely to develop dementia than those who were prone to anxiety and stress. (Hui-Xin Wang, PhD, research scientist, Aging Research Center, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden).

Daily use of Thought Field Therapy (TFT) can reduce anxiety, fears and stress whether related to trauma, economic fears or other life stressors.  TFT also can improve heart rate variability (HRV).

Not only does reducing phobic anxiety increase HRV  but it can also reduce the risk of dementia. (Kawachi, I. et al., 1995.  Decreased heart rate variability in men with phobic anxiety:  data from the Normative Aging Study.  American Journal of Cardiology, 75(14):882-885)

Fear of flying is a phobia that most cannot afford to live with in this age of travel. Whoopi has long been known for her intense fear of flying and chose to conquer this phobia.

Virgin Atlantic offers a program called “Flying Without Fear” and Thought Field Therapy is used to help students overcome the fear of flying.

We are happy to offer a free guide to get you on the road to overcoming your fear of flying, or any other phobia that may be affecting your day-to-day life. Just sign up on the sidebar of our blog for immediate access.

The View - Fear of Flying WhoopiVirgin Atlantic Airline’s Fear of Flying program incorporates the use of Thought Field Therapy.

We were honored to be given the opportunity to work with Whoopi Goldberg as part of our participation in the Virgin Atlantic Airways “Flying Without Fear” program… helping her overcome her intense fear of flying.

The aviophobic actress hasn’t flown for a decade, but an upcoming business commitment in London means she has to step on a plane once again.

Whoopi Goldberg will undergo a special course on her talk show The View on Wednesday April 1, courtesy of Virgin Atlantic boss Sir Richard Branson.

Part of the therapy is undergoing our Thought Field Therapy process and then a ride in a flight simulator to help Whoopi conquer her fears – and Goldberg is dreading the experience.

WhoopiShe says, “I am sweating a lot. My mind is doing bad stuff to me. I am not a good flyer. I don’t like it. I don’t wanna do it.”

Our Advanced Practitioner in the UK, Gillian Harvey-Bush, is one of the trainers for Virgin Atlantic’s Fear of Flying program, and Dr. Roger Callahan’s will also work with Whoopi using TFT.

Watch The View on April 1 to see the results.

Dr Mary Cowley, PhD, TFT-VT, shares ways to achieve optimal health through Thought Field Therapy.

_170x170Janet Thomson, a diagnostic level TFT practitioner, certified nutritionist and author in the UK, did an excellent job of demonstrating the effectiveness of TFT last Wednesday, 4 March, as a guest on BBC Radio 2’s CHRIS EVANS SHOW.

She did 2 live pieces chatting to Chris, and in between eliminating a kebab addiction (no joke!) and reducing cravings for a smoker and a wine lover she got to chat about Dr. Callahan (TFT Founder and Developer) and how brilliant he is and the whole thing was great coverage for TFT.

If you want to listen you can, for the next few days at least (it’s usually live for 7 days so up till midnight Tuesday UK time) you can either listen to the show again (Wednesday) from Chris’s homepage here or download the podcast by clicking here. One of TFT’s other practitioners reported that Janet’s bits are at 21:35 and 1:12:00.

Janet said, “I know some other UK based therapists have already had inquiries as a result so it’s great for all of us and importantly credits Roger as its creator.”

There has been another bit of media in the UK as well, this time about Lloyd Watkins, TFT Dx, and TFT helping panic attacks and anxiety relief. It also talks about NHS trusts and complimentary medicine acceptance of TFT:

Fortunately, such therapy types are now available in the UK, albeit only via private treatment, as even though the NHS Trusts Association (NHSTS) have now officially recognized the value of modern therapies such as Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and included them in their directory of complementary medicine, they are not yet available under NHS funded schemes. Lloyd Watkins our head therapist who alongside specialising in helping panic attack sufferers, teaches TFT to the exacting standards required by the NHS, said recently “its great news that the NHSTA have at long last recognised the benefits of TFT. This will now lead the way to wider exposure of this fantastic method and hopefully open the door to it eventually becoming available in hospitals and clinics throughout the country; something long overdue.” http://www.beonform.com/

There is a new, excellent article in Vision magazine talking about the benefits of TFT for anxiety and stress relief.  It is an interview with TFT practitioner Sharon Goodlove, whose is trained through the advanced, Optimal Health level of TFT which includes Voice Technology.  Sharon has been a long time practitioner and the interview is great for increasing awareness of the benefits of using Thought Field Therapy for anxiety and stress in today’s chaotic times.

Thought Field Therapy Tapping into Emotional Freedom

by Elyssa Paige

thought field therapy

If I told you that you could completely rid yourself of fear, anxiety and stress in a matter of minutes, what would you say?

That’s what Thought Field Therapy (TFT) is all about. By simply tapping on acupressure points in a specific order, you balance the body’s energy system and release negative emotions.

I discovered this modality during a stressful time in my life in which I thankfully found my way to the cozy office of Sharon Goodlove, Certified Thought Field Therapy Diagnostician. She showed me how to treat myself in one session. Recently we spoke again—this time to empower others to release negativity and heal themselves through TFT. Read more

As we enter February and approach Valentine’s Day many of us turn our thoughts to our love relationships. Some of us are grateful for the love of our lives, while many others are asking themselves – Why do I always get a loser? – or – How can I find that special person and not sabotage it?

Amouraphobia is at the root of many of the troubles with our love life. It is caused by the very severe personal trauma that virtually everyone one of us has suffered – at one time or another in our lives, loss of a lover. I call this horrible trauma LOVE PAIN. Many may joke about this pain but underneath the humor seethes remnants of the past suffering and terrible LOVE PAIN.

Severe love pain is supposed to only happen to adolescents. Because they are more vulnerable and open to intense romantic love (Romeo and Juliet were adolescents) they do suffer to a greater degree than their elders.

My first book, IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU was about amouraphobia and its manifold effects, especially it’s potential for destroying the chance for a happy and fulfilling romantic life – even if you happen to have the ideal partner.

As a result of my theory, I found that those who had suffered severe love pain, in the past, often became severe amouraphobes. I then discovered a very effective treatment for amouraphobia and the severe trauma from the past love loss. It is quite possible, if you do these self-help procedures, you will notice it is easier to give, communicate, and receive romantic love, perhaps better than you have since you were very young.

Many people believe that the most common phobias are fear of public speaking or fear of death. Perhaps not? Based on my decades of experience and clinical practice, I believe the most common fear is, fear of intense romantic love, amouraphobia. I did considerable clinical research on amouraphobia and I found that it caused many problems and was much more common than we realized.

When my book, IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU, first came out, it received much media attention. However, at that time, while it was an intriguing topic, I had not yet discovered a treatment for it. Even so, US magazine did a full story on it, Phil Donahue devoted a whole show to the concept and the media devoured it.

Now, however, I understand the phenomenon of amouraphobia, what causes it and the problems it causes in our lives, robbing many of a satisfying and fulfilling romantic relationship.

Surprisingly enough, the same treatment that is needed to relieve love pain is the very same treatment we use on severe traumas. The treatment needed to eliminate the amouraphobia is our common phobia treatment, best used after using the trauma treatment to treat past love pain and grief.

If you miss the free teleclass, we provide free Trauma Self-Help from our web site . This help is available in English, Spanish and a video in Chinese. We will be adding new languages soon. This is the very same, powerful treatment we have used in our trauma relief missions in Rwanda, Kosovo, New Orleans, Uganda and to help our returning veterans.

Roger J. Callahan, Founder and Developer of Thought Field Therapy

We just returned from an exciting and stimulating meeting of TFT VT (Voice Technology) practitioners.  While not all were able to attend, we had practitioners from South America, Japan, Europe, and the USA.

We met in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii, where we enjoyed the air, the waves and the heavenly beauty of Hawaii. We all presented interesting and challenging cases, new ideas and works in progress.  I shared my current work on the ELECTRIC THEORY OF CANCER. and the development of (currently) 15 unique and powerful ways that TFT can help people who have cancer.

We heard about new organizational structures, a new journal featuring TFT, the latest research and humanitarian efforts and some amazing case studies with TFT and cancer, rare neurological disorders, autism, coma’s, and life changing work with prisoners. Many of these cases were considered hopeless by the attending medical practitioners and fully documented with medical records and tests.  They demonstrate the true power of TFT, nature’s healing system.  Watch upcoming issues of the Thought Field and the UPdate for details of these cases and happenings in 2009.

When we returned from Honolulu I found the mail waiting for me.  The NATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST NEWSPAPER was the first item.  The headline on the front page identified a recent study confirming what I have been working on, relieving mental stress helps cancer patients.  I will go into more detail in my next post.
