Thought Field Therapy  – The Original Tapping Therapy

For the past 33 years, a simple technique called Thought Field Therapy has been rapidly healing trauma, anxiety, pain and disease for people who are desperate to regain wellness and normalcy in their lives.

What started as a simple therapeutic treatment to stimulate the body’s own healing systems through tapping on various points of the body—much the same way Chinese physicians use acupuncture to do—has become much more mainstream, launching the fields of energy psychology and energy medicine in the western world.

Thousands have recovered rapidly from troublesome disorders like insomnia, gout or tinnitus. Others have eliminated stress, anxiety and fears – and even physical pain literally within minutes. Hundreds have regained their lives by curbing addictive urges for nicotine, controlled substances or obsessive behaviors. Those suffering the aftereffects of trauma—warfare, rape, injury or loss— have instantly removed the horrible emotions and feelings tied to that event which previously controlled their lives, sometimes for decades.

How Did Thought Field Therapy Come Into Being?

In 1979, as a licensed psychologist in private practice, Roger was counseling a young mother who was terrified of water. In fact, her phobia was so extreme; she was unable to pursue even the most basic activities if they involved water or brought her near to water. To our great frustration, after a year of using all the traditional therapy methods, our patient “Mary” was no better than before. Sitting outside near our swimming pool one day, she became nauseous from just the thought of the water nearby. Then Roger had an idea. Remembering that the Chinese had used acupuncture for over 5,000 years to stimulate the flow of energy through what they call the body’s “meridians” or electrical pathways, he asked Mary to tap a few times under her eye – the location of the end point of the stomach meridian.

After several seconds of tapping, Mary exclaimed, “It’s gone!” and made a beeline for the pool bending down to splash water on her face. Quite frankly, we were dumbfounded. Yet that night, Mary decided to test her phobia cure further by driving to the ocean in a rare California rainstorm. Wading into the surf, she remained completely free of her fear. Trying to make sense of what had just happened; we questioned how such an unusual technique could bring about results when it was so contrary to all our traditional training and all recognized therapy protocols. During the pre-conference Research day, Howard and Phyll Robson presented the TFT Foundation’s Uganda PTSD study. It was well received. They also met with other TFT researchers and some professionals involved in possible further studies and funding to continue their work in Uganda.

Suzanne Connoly

Suzanne Connolly received ACEP’s Harvey Baker Research Award

Also, a huge CONGRATULATIONS! to Suzanne Connolly as she received ACEP’s Harvey Baker Research Award for outstanding contribution to the field of Energy Psychology. The TFT Foundation, USA, is so proud to have her on their board and leading their Trauma Relief committee as well as leading their research in the field.

David Feinstein paid tribute to Roger in his excellent presentation (see photos). We all send our thoughts and blessings to him as he is healing from a recent surgery.

Suzanne Connolly reported, “Bob Pasahow did a stellar job presenting his workshop -Optimizing Psychotherapy Results: The Synergy of Integrating TFT and EFT. It was well attended and extremely well received.

Caroline Sakai also presented a training – EP with Trauma, Homelessness and Compassion Fatigue – that drew a concentration of EP practitioners concerned with delivering TFT or other EP techniques to the underserved.”

One of the other attendees, Christina Mayhew, TFT-Adv. says,

“I just came back from the ACEP conference in Reston, VA this weekend and I am so excited to see so many of the various modalities incorporating ‘TFT tapping’ into their work and the various outstanding speakers who gave credit to Roger for his pioneering work in energy psychology.

It is really hard to wrap my head around the awesomeness of this truly remarkable and miraculous technique which is so simplistic yet powerful beyond the belief sometimes. There are so many ways that TFT can be used to facilitate healing in the mind, body and spirit. I know that Roger’s work will continue to grow in its foundational roots around the world and with the scientific research being conducted, TFT will become a widely accepted practice in and outside our medical communities.

Yesterday afternoon we gathered as many TFT practitioners as we could find to meet so we could connect and talk about how we are utilizing our skills, what can we do to get TFT out in the communities more and into the military to work with our service men and women. We all had a sense of pride and joy knowing we are a blessed and elite group who have been taught an awesome technique to share with our family and the world.

I feel we are truly blessed to know Roger and Joanne and extremely grateful for continuing to give so much of themselves to humanity around the world. You have touched and transformed so many lives over the years. I’m so glad that the two of you are able to see how the seed of ‘TFT’, planted so many years ago, has sprouted roots across the globe and changing one life at a time.

Thank you and God Bless you! You are Angels on Earth!!”

Thank you to those who represented the rest of us there and in the field of Energy Psychology. Our growing TFT community is becoming, a stronger and more integrated part of the larger EP community.

The ACEP Conference will be held in Phoenix AZ next June at a Native American owned luxury Hotel. We encourage all TFT practitioners to come join in the camaraderie and fun enjoyed at the ACEP Conference this year.

TFT Foundation

Dear TFT Community,

I am grateful to have the opportunity to share with you the last step in completing the TFT Foundation’s PBS quality documentary “From Trauma to Peace”. This work has been supported by four studies and the transformation of an entire region in Rwanda. A mayor in a Northern Provence of Rwanda commented that:

“People who I have never seen smile, are smiling. People who were not productive, are productive.”

We were blessed to have an Emmy Award Winning Documentarian (Bhutan) believe in our ability to create PEACE with our sharing of TFT. With his help, we have just launched our Indiegogo campaign to complete the documentation of this transformation and support further treatment of trauma victims.

Please click the link here – http://www.indiegogo.com/trauma-to-peace – and see his video and read about how the healing of thousands, one person at a time, has transformed a whole community and its people, from the trauma of genocide to peace.

TFT Foundation

Thank you to all who have donated for these studies and humanitarian missions over the last 6 years. It is hard to imagine the many lives and hearts you have helped heal with your generosity.

As we head in to the holiday season, many of us have so much to be grateful for. Please help us complete this campaign and continue to treat thousands in Africa and other traumatized regions both at home and abroad. The TFT Foundation uses 93 cents of every dollar donated directly on its programs.

Activity on the campaign site is key to our success; visit the Indiegogo page, comment on what you see, tell others if you have had personal success with TFT, share the page with your lists, your family, your friends and your colleagues. The more people that visit, post and interact with the site, the higher our rankings and the greater awareness we can create for our trauma relief work and all of Energy Psychology.

Learn about the excellent Perks available for participating. Meet our documentary team.

Remember—it is activity that makes the campaign successful.

Please visit the site – http://www.indiegogo.com/trauma-to-peace – share it with everyone you know and help us move closer to PEACE amidst a chaotic and traumatized world.

Thank you for joining our campaign,

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who have been effected by the Aurora, CO shooting this last weekend.

TFT (Thought Field Therapy) Foundation is offering, much-needed trauma and stress relief for those suffering from the recent Aurora, CO shooting. These easily learned, self-applied techniques, Thought Field Therapy (TFT) are based on time-honored principles of both contemporary clinical psychology and Chinese medicine to conquer trauma, anxiety, stress, fears and addictions.

These procedures, the original form of Energy Psychology, are safe, non-invasive and simple to apply.

TFT has been used world-wide in trauma relief and humanitarian projects. Joanne Callahan, President of the TFT Foundation is sympathetic to the needs of those suffering from such traumatic events.  The TFT Foundation’s past humanitarian and trauma relief in Rwanda, New Orleans, Uganda, Haiti and Kosovo have demonstrated that TFT is a powerful and effective treatment for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.) These procedures are now offered free on the foundation’s trauma relief web site.  The procedures used for trauma and stress relief world-wide, are available in video and print in 11 languages.

Recent studies in Rwanda and Uganda demonstrate the effectiveness of these procedures for large scale trauma relief.  Trauma relief procedures are simple and easy to use and are available by visiting http://www.TFTTraumaRelief.wordpress.com

Thought Field Therapy Rwanda

The ATFT Foundation funded 2008 PTSD study “Brief trauma intervention with Rwanda genocide survivors using Thought Field Therapy” has just come out in peer reviewed International Journal of Emergency Mental Health. The study’s two-year follow-up will be submitted for publication at a later date.

This study was the first of the ATFT Foundation’s PTSD studies, demonstrating an effective model for large-scale trauma relief. In 2009 a second study with this same model was completed and will be submitted for publication soon. It included a one-year follow-up and will also be submitted for publication.

The TFT (formerly ATFT) Foundation will be purchasing reprints. These reprints will be available from the foundation through Joanne@TFTFoundation.org .

Connolly, S., & Sakai, C. (2012). Brief trauma intervention with
Rwandan genocide survivors, using Thought Field Therapy.
International Journal of Emergency Mental Health, 13 (3), 161-172.

The third study, demonstrating this same model for large-scale trauma relief will be completed in Uganda in June of this year. Suzanne Connolly received a grant from ACEP (Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology) as seed money for this year’s study. The remaining funding will be provided from the three organizations providing the team: TFT Foundation, (USA), ATFT Foundation UK, and the Mats Uldal Humanitarian Foundation (Norway).

Our join objectives for these studies are:

1. To continue developing and scientifically validating a model in which local community leaders can be trained to treat community members in the aftermath of large- scale disasters, especially in regions where trained professionals are scarce.

2. To relieve the distress of those suffering from trauma and promote Post Traumatic Growth (PTG).

The TFT Foundation is in need of support to continue these studies and provide much needed trauma relief. To see further details about the previous studies and projects or to contribute to our efforts, go to www.TFTFoundation.org

Espn recently ran an article on how Tom Hanson helped Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia get over the “yips” with Thought Field Therapy®

Below is a reprint of the article from ESPN by Gordon Edes, ESPNBoston.com’s Red Sox reporter.

Saltalamacchia says yips are gone

Red Sox catcher swears by his work with sports psychologists

FORT MYERS, Fla. — There are taps to the eyebrow, the side of the eye, below the eye, below the nose, below the lips. A tap below the armpit, below the collarbone, below the pectoral muscles. A tap to the top of the head, then repeat the circuit.

Even if people watch closely during the course of a game, they may never see any of these, because you are taught how to hide these motions. They are intended for you, only you, and for you they are intended to be empowering.

Dr. Tom Hanson

The system is simply called tapping, and while Tom Hanson, the man who teaches this form of what he calls “energy psychology,” describes it as sounding “weird,” Boston Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia is a believer.

Once, Saltalamacchia was too proud to acknowledge that he needed help from someone else, be it a longtime sports psychologist like Harvey Dorfman, whom he once worked with, or Hanson, a performance-enhancement coach to whom Saltalamacchia turned when he was having trouble throwing the ball back to the pitcher, the simplest of tasks for a catcher.

“When I was first coming up, just being young, your ego plays into it,” Saltalamacchia said Tuesday morning after concluding a workout here with a session of batting practice, along with two other early arrivals at Sox camp, Ryan Kalish and Daniel Nava. “You don’t want anyone to know you’re getting help. But you’re getting help in the training room, why not get help for other issues?

“I didn’t want anyone to know I wanted somebody, I needed somebody. That was a big issue with me. But it’s done wonders for me. Going home after a game two years ago, I could have hit the bed and slept for 18 hours because my head was just going, and now, I’ve learned to be able to work with that. Think smart, think positive. You can’t put negatives in your head, it’s just going to hurt you all around. It’s been great for me.”

Saltalamacchia reached out to Hanson last spring when the throwing problem surfaced — in sporting parlance, it’s known as the “yips,” the same affliction that can affect a golfer’s putting. Saltalamacchia had had surgery the previous September to correct thoracic outlet syndrome, a group of disorders that occur when the blood vessels or nerves in the thoracic outlet — the space between the collarbone and first rib — becomes compressed, causing pain in the shoulders and neck, and numbness in the fingers.

As part of the surgery to alleviate the condition, Saltalamacchia had an impinged rib removed from near his right shoulder. During his recovery, the throwing problems surfaced. They grew acute after he was sent down to the minors by the Texas Rangers one game into the season, after he’d hurt his back. Read more

The Energy Psychology Modality That Heals

by Lorraine Blum, L.C.S.W, MS.C, NBCCH, RM, TFT DX

Energy Medicine has been around a very long time. Reiki, an Energy Modality first discovered in Japan thousands of years ago and TFT Dx is a more recent Energy Modality used here in the United States to heal those suffering from Health Disorders… and it’s being applied in many other countries like Egypt, India, and China. In fact, Energy Psychology is now being studied in prestigious schools such as the University of Florida. Recently there were grants given to conservative settings such as Hospice in South Florida to hire these healers.

Insurance companies are beginning to look at this kind of treatment for possible coverage in the future. Where hospitals laughed at Reiki Masters and any kind of Energy medicine, they are now welcoming them.

Thought Field Therapy Diagnosis was started by Roger Callahan PHD

Anything is possible with Energy Psychology and the knowledge of Orthomolecular Medicine, especially when using Spiritual Law.

Of course it it wise and necessary to include your personal Physician in this type of treatment procedure as he knows the most about your physical condition.

The 37th Annual International Conference on Orthomolecular Medicine in Canada had patient’s previously severely mentally ill reporting full recovery. The successful treatment of Schizophrenia after all the tests are completed and the allergies eliminated is primarily Nutrition and Energy Psychology.

TFT Dx is incredibly effective in the Art of Healing.

Roger Callahan, a Clinical Psychologist focused on Mental Health. Through his research and testing he discovered some simple new procedures he demonstrated on televisions while treating those around the world for Anxiety, Depression, Addictions, Trauma and other disorders. This lead to development of a casual diagnostic process, where he could quickly determine a specific tapping sequence, now known as commonly used algorithms.

It was his invitation in 1994 to Florida State University to participate in the search for a cure for PTSD along with other therapies such as EMDR and VK/D a form of NLP that the descriptive name came about of Thought Field Therapy.

Energy therapies much like Acupuncture is so fast and seemingly lasting it is truly hard to believe.
